Frequently asked questions
How this site works, where the information comes from, and what it can and cannot do for you.
About the content
Who writes these articles?
Health writers who work from primary sources — peer-reviewed research and national clinical guidelines. Every health article is then checked by a clinician practising in the relevant field before it publishes. The full workflow is on our editorial process page.
How do I know the information is current?
Each health article carries a review date. Articles are revisited at least once every twelve months, and sooner if relevant guidance changes or significant new evidence appears. If an article changes materially, the date is updated.
Can I use this instead of seeing a doctor?
No. Everything here is general education. It cannot account for your medical history, medications or circumstances, and it cannot examine you. Use it to understand your situation and to ask better questions at your appointment, not to replace one.
Why does the site use such direct language?
Because vagueness fails readers. When an article dances around the subject, people leave without the answer they came for. We use accurate clinical and anatomical terms and explain them on first use.
Do you publish explicit content?
No. This is a health publication. We cover sexual health clinically and directly, but we do not publish sexually explicit material.
Trust and independence
Do advertisers influence what you publish?
No. Commercial partners have no input into topic selection, conclusions or product mentions in medical content. Where any commercial relationship exists that a reader could reasonably see as a conflict, it is disclosed on the page it applies to.
What happens if you get something wrong?
We correct it on the page and note what changed. Corrections take priority over everything else in the queue. Report errors through the contact page.
Do you sell my data?
No. We do not sell reader data. If you subscribe to the newsletter, your email is used to send the newsletter and nothing else, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
Using the site
Where do I start if I have a specific question?
Try the Health A–Z, which indexes conditions, symptoms and terms alphabetically and links each to the guide that covers it. Otherwise pick the topic hub closest to your question.
Can I ask you a personal medical question?
We cannot answer individual medical questions, give diagnoses or recommend treatment. That has to come from a clinician who can assess you properly. We do read topic suggestions, and common questions often become articles.
Can I republish your articles?
Ask first through the contact page. Short quotations with a link back are fine; republishing whole articles is not.
How do I suggest a topic?
Through the contact page. Tell us the question you could not find a decent answer to — those make the best articles.
